When Moonbase's fertility clinic is broken into and three embryos are stolen, their mother, wealthy Arab Chamsya Assadi, threatens to withdraw her financial support. Anna Shoun is overpowered by the escaping thief, but is able to identify him as concert pianist James Bannerman, an identification supported by subsequent genetic testing. However, Bannerman was giving a concert performance on Earth at the exact time of the theft. The thief begins broadcasting his ransom demands, prompting Nathan Spring to begin an investigation into Bannerman' background; he learns that the pianist's father was a geneticist whose work was partially funded by Assadi, but when the work was banned, Assadi then backed out. David Theroux is able to track the location of the thief's transmissions - not from Earth, but from the moon itself; Spring sends Colin Devis and new ISPF recruit Soun to apprehend the criminal - but just how is the villian connected to Bannerman..?
